Consistency of Treatment in Prognosis
The more supplements you're taking, the less likely you're going to stick
around for those herbs to work.
People who shop for health care on the internet can be some of the most
focused, sincere and genuine patients I've ever had. Others however are
reaching out and purchasing whatever sounds good at the time.
Pain, discomfort, and obsessiveness are all reasons that cause people to try too many remedies.
If you're being treated by more than one physician, that's perfectly
fine, especially when one hand knows what the other hand is doing. However,
consumers of dietary supplements and herbal medicines can find a great deal of purchase opportunities on-line and therein lies the danger of overdoing it.
More is not necessarily better, and in my experience, it usually isn't.
It isn't so bad that you're taking more than one supplement. The problem
arises when you have 18 different practitioners
whispering in your ear to get you interested in their particular product.
One of two things follow when you're buying too many therapies, either you don't do them for long enough, or you're doing so many things, they're beginning to cancel each other out or worse yet, create new problems.
I'm only taking the Beyond Well Being herbs.
Good sign. One month per year of pathology applies to you.
I'm taking 1-2 supplements plus the BWB herbs.
You're okay. Probably smart not to put all your eggs into one basket.
Ask your practitioners if the other therapies are getting in the way
of what they're trying to achieve, just to make sure.
I'm taking 3-4 supplements plus the BWB herbs
Are you sure you need all of those other supplements? Make sure that
you do. Just because you heard about something on TV or in a fashion
magazine doesn't make it appropriate for you, not by a long shot. Question
things a bit, okay? Want to know what the best question is to ask? "What
does this person who is telling me that I need this supplement have
to gain by my believing it?" Obviously if they're in the business
of selling supplements, they have financial gain. Get a second opinion
on your supplements from someone who has nothing to sell to you.
I'm taking 5-6 supplements plus the BWB herbs
I'm sensing a problem here. Why are you taking so much? How can you
be sure what is actually helping you and what is just getting in the
way of those supplements that do have an affect? Best to start shaving
off some of the extra supplements here.
I'm taking 7-10 supplements plus the BWB herbs
Now we're getting into a situation where the herbs that I've given
you are competing with all the other supplements for proper absorption
in the stomach and intestines. More is not better. Let's take a good
hard look at what all you're taking and see if we can't moderate things
a bit.
I'm taking 11+ supplements plus the BWB herbs
Some people say that the job of traditional Chinese medicine is to restore balance. While you're working to encourage your body into homeostasis, don't forget that your mind too needs to be turned off and reset periodically, like right now.
Close your eyes, listen to your breath. When you notice that you're not listening to your breath anymore, just return to your breath. Repeat.
What we make of the moment is our choice. Not every moment needs to be devoted to your body's health. Not every thought must revolve around your health. Not every website must hold the solution to your problem.
